I am a person who values honesty. In fact, my friends tell me I have a terrible poker face. Because of this, I am able to quickly establish trust by being my authentic self and make space for others to be themselves as well. My natural ability to humanize situations helps people feel seen and heard which enables me to foster collaboration and create an inclusive environment. However, I know when to be diplomatic and drive for consensus.
Details are important to me. Whether it’s consistency in using (or not using) an Oxford comma, editing for cohesive tense and voice, or making sure the visuals are congruous and integrated effectively. My detail obsession also helps me as I create and maintain systems and processes to increase productivity for myself and my team. This, in turn, leads me to excel at accountability where I hold myself and others responsible to deliver on the commitments we make.
The Canyon Center for Character Education (n.d.) has published competencies that are focused on promoting human flourishing and the common good. I find that my values align with these and the way in which I intend to practice instructional design. Offering people the opportunity to reflect and act as a contributor to the global community is at the heart of my aspirations for my career.
